How to Replace an audi q3 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I crank the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you have any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. The good news is they are very cheap and easily accessible, especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi a4 key replacement, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process the signal to control fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points. This part is common across the audi key replacement near me car key holder (Link Home Page) 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find them in wrecking yards.1200px-Vauxhall_logo_2019.svg_.png
